Welcome to our team home page! We’ve formed a team for the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware’s annual 5K Run/Walk in Lewes because we want to help keep families with seriously ill or injured children together, while their child receives life saving medical treatment. All of our children have been under the care of doctors at AI DuPont Children's Hospital and we feel incredibly blessed to have them cared for by the best doctors, nurses and therapists possible. Experiencing how an entire family is impacted by a family member(s) being sick; it is important to keep the them close. We are walking to represent the zebras in the medical community. In medical school, many doctors learn the saying, “when you hear hoof beats, think horses, not zebras” focusing on the likeliest possibilities when making a diagnosis, not the unusual ones. However, sometimes physicians find a zebra.
The Run/Walk is more than just a physical challenge. It is our commitment and promise to support the House and the families that call the House “home”. Please help us make a MIGHTY DIFFERENCE! Can we count on your support?
The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware provides a safe, affordable “home away from home” to families of seriously or chronically ill or injured children who are being treated at area hospitals.
The House is a place where families who have to travel far in order for their child to receive specialized pediatric medical care can stay together. Families find a bit of comfort and peace and a hot evening meal after a long day at the Hospital.
The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware has 56,000 square feet of living space, including 50 guest rooms, each with a private bathroom. Our staff and volunteers welcome families and visitors from 9:00am to 9:00pm.
The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware also operates three Family Rooms at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, Christiana Hospital and Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. The Familiy Rooms provide a brief respite for parents and other family members, that is away from the hospital setting, but still within feet of their child.
